Not sure what to wear for your engagement session? Believe me, you are not alone. This is the #1 question that everyone asks. After all, these photos will be used for your wedding website and save the dates and they should reflect who you both are as a couple! Before you tear your closet apart or exhaust countless sites for the perfect outfit, consider these helpful tips!
Neutrals. Neutrals are your friends. Thats right, give me all the grays, creams, blues, etc. Keep the bright oranges and pinks in your closet. Saturated and bright colors are unnecessary distractions in photos.
For example, if it’s the dead of winter, embrace the coziness of sweaters and boots. Similarly, if it’s mid-summer, rock that flowy summer dress. Take advantage of whatever season AND location you’re in. Remember that it can be important to book your session in a season that you love and in a spot that has meaning to you both.
That’s right. Gone are the days of your mom dressing you and your sibling in matching jean overalls. DON’T match. Instead, when thinking about you and your partners’ outfits, aim to complement one another’s look. For example, look for complementary colors and tones. If you’re unsure if your outfits “go together”, lay them out together or heck, try em’ on!
If you are a classic white tee and blue jeans kind of person, wear that! Taking engagement photos doesn’t automatically mean you need to be in a dramatic, long, beaded dress. Believe me, you’ll have plenty of photos from your wedding day of you all dolled up. Of course, it is fun to tie in some eye-catching fabrics or patterns (lace, leather, hats, etc.) but at the end of the day, you should feel comfortable and relaxed. No matter what, you and your partner should still look like yourselves. Stay true to YOU.
Take this time to celebrate and have fun with your partner!
